this was a commission up by for hap to make hobbes, yknow from calvin and hobbes, the sunday funnies comic of the rambunctious kid and his toy tiger?
the one by Bill Watterson? yeah that one.
i was rather excited to work on this one. as the day before i actually started out i gotten a violent migraine. it was bad. but that all got cleared out.
i remember sitting on the floor and tables just flipping through each book of comic strips, i greatly admire the series and by golly
i sure am glad that bill hasnt really done much to like. commericalize and make merch of C&H. so getting a commission of this was all
the more special for me personally.
if on afterward that bill is to have pass away and someone decides to desecrate his wishes and pulls a stephen hillenburg by making something beyond what the creator wanted, and only waiting for until death- ill kick your ass sky high to waters. nothing but an impact crater will be all that remains of your existence.
... ANYWAYS.
anyways... the making of this needle felting project. tiger time.
when i was looking at refrences of hobbes, it really made me realize just. how much i love the way hes shaped. (i am doing of his.. living form. not of the plushie. the shape that allows him to be calvins partner in crime.) with long tall body and arms to match. and then theres just stubby little legs. it just. matches him. it tells so much of his personality on just his visual design. wipes tear.
there is rice inside within the stuffing to give some hefty and to keep the sitting pose somewhat sturdy.
the star shapes there are to be tufts along his chest and cheeks.
im just molding out the body from scrap raw wool as usual, and when i was applying the skin over the feet, i realized i made the layer a tad
too thin so there was plenty of the brown peeking through- but then thought came to mind. no need to plop on another layer of white, just leave it as is.
because! because hobbes is a real rascal of sorts and will always be up to tromping through mud and getting dirty.
yeah the brown spots are of woolen mud. serendipity.
i didnt make the fingers all individually, i just did the nubs to give that bumpy sillohuete and then just really punched them into the hand deeply so the ridges that seperate them are more pronounced.
the tail. step by step. no wire inside.
the pieces done. now i can go with putting together the skin layers.
ah yeah NOW the skin can be put on.
wooh yeah oh yeah. woo hoo, oh yeah. yay .
and whats a tiger without stripes?
and whats a tiger without an adorable face?
stab counter: 235. appropriate for a tiger to do that to me. those brown smears you see on the notecard- thats blood smeared on. "it's not a beginner broth".
cosmo cares not.
