Originally I was aiming to have a yak, but the name of this page clearly states "bison"...
... and then I realized that the humpage shape was all fucked for a yak so just went and tore it all off then stacked the two humps into one singular big hump because turns out the spirit wanted to be a bison instead, and who am I to discourage such a desire?
ALSO BEFORE I FORGET I just wanna point out that half the image search results for "yak" is just highland cattle breed.
The legs are an interesting plot to be had. So first idea was that the back legs are to just be wool, while the
fronts got a paper clip bent out straight to be as the bones because the body will have a lot of heft at the front so surely
it only makes sense to let the fronts have that support. And then I later went to have the hind legs also have paper clip bones,
which really lucky break that the wires were JUST the right length in whats needed so things didnt seem too widly
out of proportions... but just to make sure I stuck in an additional paper clip on the front legs. 2 front 1 back.
yeah seemed sturdy enough to continue on..
I was gonna use pipe cleaners like how I did with Blue Horse, but decided on unbent paper clip because its just sturdier
and wont buckle in under its own weight.
Really starting to regret using pipecleaner as the bone for Blue Horse... but its too late to deal with that!
I've gotten used to stabbing myself a bunch, some instances more grody than the others.
Of course I'm gonna ritualistically smear my own blood onto the beast. Who do you take me for?
ITS ART MOTHER FUCKER.
LEGS
Now having bulked out the general body shape to be satisfactory, I can now begin to put together the skins and be closer to realize Bison awake.
Starting out with putting on the pants first.
Something I really gotta mention is just I jsut find the shape of bison so facinating, along with boar.
They're jsut triangles. All that powerful killing heft is at the front, while the hind legs are just. there.
the shoulders are just a solid wall of fat and muscle. It's amazing. Really Amazing.
Sure I could have done realistic colors, but same reason as Blue Horse- "I didn't feel like it.
being abstractly colorful is more visualy interesting anyway". That and I didnt have enough browns to work with.
Okay now before you ask, yes i'm aware that the material that is being used to bulk out is indeed BROWN,
however thats raw wool. Only parly washed of MOST debri, and if I work it enough, theres a schmear of sheep residue on my palms.
Besides, I can work a theme with having funky colors. devise cool patterns. This is called Starry Bison
not Regular Bison after all.
I wanted to do something fun with the bordering of with how the front half of the body got a thick coat while the hind is pretty naked. Quite proud of the swirly shapes.
Realized a tad too late of, hoow along side everything esle regarding Bison, that the head is fucking massive.
That theres like. some sort of crest thing structure... which is probably just more hair... but I had to enlarge
the head by ripping the scalp open and adding a dome on top, and then fold the skin back on.
Asked if I should be slightly more anatomically realistic because this bison is on a male model. sadly I was denied.
weeping.
weeping.
no balls for bull.
Adding on some final details and doing finishing touches...
the last piece for awakening is the tail.
stab counter 451.. up there amongst the biggest numbers recorded thus far..
there is a sort of bitter, poisoned irony that while the bison gains status for being the national animal for this place only recently, yet one of the most defining moments that shaped this nation was to mass slaughter these animals to be reduced in only to the hundreds to bring about distress, sorrow, destabilization, and starvation.
may the bison continue to prevail on long after the name of this bleeding empire that sought to exterminate them becomes a memory. to run with the rivers finally unbound from concrete chambers.
Because of the way all that weight is at the front, having Bison do a sort of headstand is a rather common occurance. Though I must not do it for too long as the bending will stress the fibers of front hooves to adopt the angle that it's pushing against and it'll just look weird and that's just extra task for me to fix.
yknow. There I go thinking the blue bastard was my most complex sculptures to date.. ONLY FOR IMMEDIATLY AFTER I go and make this absolute beast. well for the sake of the rearing up pose, the horse is still pretty complex, as Bison is solidly standing neutrally on all fours. shrugs.
Up to the peak of the shoulder hump, Bison stands at 17 centimeters.
goodnight. or morning.
